The quality of the shaving brush is critical for production of the soap foam and consequently an important factor for the smooth and close shave. You immediately recognize differences on the badger hair, on the properties during lathering up and the sensation on the skin.

With pure badger hair you get excellent brush quality as distinguished from manmade hair or wild boar bristles. Pure badger hair is fine and elastic, it stays firm and flexible even when wet.

When combined with a good soap a badger hair brush produces an especially thick and creamy foam - a prerequisite for a smooth and close shave.

The acrylic or solid wood "handle" is indestructible.

shavemac offers you the refilling of your “handle” with new badger hair should it ever become necessary. By the way, this also applies for top quality brushes from other manufacturers (see brush repair).

Badger hair qualities

Shavemac exclusively uses handmade brushes made from pure badger, finest badger or silver tip badger.

Gray badger hair – machine made or handmade

Dark gray coloring, robust and long lived.

This special brush is ideal for men with a strong grip who know how to appreciate a definite massaging effect. It is just as suitable for the wet shave novice as a relatively inexpensive step into the luxury class of shaving brushes.
Compared with bristle brushes this gray badger hair brush combines the special characteristics of all badger hair brushes with regard to the foaming properties. It is gentle to your skin and is particularly long lived.
We use only the best quality for our heads made by hand from pure badger hair. The tips are not trimmed. The shape is formed in the artisan handwork (see Manufacture).

The finest, bright badger hair – machine made or handmade

This quality lies only just below the Silver Tip badger hair

The fine badger hair combines the very high quality for a close and comfortable shave with an outstanding price-performance ratio.
Hand produced heads of this quality are very soft and are evidence of the high capability of the brush maker.

Pure Badger ECO and Fienst Badger ECO ( Economy)
These knots are machine made and therefore lower in price. They are not as dense as the handmade ones.

Special quality: Hand produced Silver Tip badger hair

Only the finest Silver Tip badger hair is used for the production of this brush.

The silver tip badger hair from the back of the badger is especially smooth and robust. The unique sample can be clearly distinguished from the simple gray badger hair: Slight coloring, surrounded by a dark band and with bright tips.
The brush making master binds the hair using handiwork into a totally symmetrical shape, in this way he avoids the cutting otherwise absolutely necessary in a later step. This brush is not just of a high quality that can be felt, it also distinguishes itself through its high durability.

Extra Silvertip D01
D01 is an extra strong badger hair for extra dense knots. Very soft to the skin and with lots of backbone.

Differences between brushes produced by machine and by hand

• the life span of the handmade brushes is longer because the hairs in the tips are undamaged.
• the handmade brush head is packed more densely with hairs
• the handmade brush head is softer on the skin because the natural tips of the hairs are not “piegsig”.
